New for the 2011 model year is MyKey, which allows parents of teenage drivers to set electronic limits for vehicle speed and stereo volume. Should you opt for the navigation system, Sync also provides real-time information for traffic, weather, sport scores, movie times and probably your horoscope if you ask nicely enough. Among the latter are Ford's superb Sync system that allows voice control over your cell phone, iPod/MP3 player and the available navigation system. The Escape strikes most folks as attractive inside and out, offering a number of unique and enticing technology features. Competition abounds, and despite some cutting-edge features, the Escape has aged noticeably in a few respects. Fast-forward a decade and the 2011 Ford Escape doesn't have it nearly as easy. It was also a trend-setter, because there weren't many other choices around for a small crossover or SUV. Without the rust problem I'd buy the right Escape in a heartbeat.īack when it debuted in 2000, the Ford Escape was a smash hit with its just-right size, pleasant driving dynamics and available V6. When I think about it, we've had a Ford F-150 and a F-250 and both rusted prematurely and once it started, very quickly. Now I have to start my search again with other particular makes already eliminated. I don't want to get a used vehicle starting out with a problem that will quickly get worse. My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee (19 yrs old) is just now showing rust and that was my fault. There should not be so much rust consistently on a vehicle only 6 years old. I had my heart set on the 2012 or older Escape. Out of about 18 Escapes 2012 and earlier I looked at or test drove, all but 2 had 1 major problem in common-premature RUST! I was soooooo disappointed. Have gone to dealerships and looked and have stopped to look at Escapes in parking lots or parked on … streets. I've done test drives & love the Escapes. I don't like the look of the newer midsize SUVs or crossovers or hatchbacks. I want a pre-owned mid sized SUV and the Ford Escape came highly recommended. ![]()
